Feeling Overwhelmed and How I'll Make a Change

Hello everyone!

So I haven't been very good at checking-in these past two weeks or posting since my last dinner post.

I've been having a kind of stressful two weeks, which is probably due to putting a serious amount of pressure on myself and wanting to do it all, rather than seeing that even doing something is better than nothing.

I had a nice Facebook chat (hehe!) with Eleana who kind of broke things down for me and made me realize that if I can change my mindset, and realize that I won't be able to loose two stone this semester, then even exercising twice and week and changing to healthy/healthier foods will make a start for perhaps making a more permanent change once graduate school is over.

I guess I have just been feeling rather overwhelmed with my thesis, assistantship, visa stuff, needing to file taxes, money in general and then the weight thing added on. I want to do them all at once, get them all out of the way but it's just not realistic. I need to be patient but organized and things will get done.

Anyway, I feel a bit better for just checking-in to say hello and let you know I am trying to make changes. Also I will weigh and measure tonight, not the best time to do so but just so I have some figures as another starting point.

Rachael.

  1. Yay glad to read something by you! There is too much of me on here. A few ideas...

    - I think it's good for you to check-in each week even if you don't want to include measurements/weight. This is our space to talk about our struggles! Even if you just use it to vent a bit, it will probably give you some clarity on what you could adjust to feel better.

    - I agree with Eleana about making smaller goals. It's great to have a big goal, but there is no deadline! Think about it as trying new things each week - new exercise DVDs/classes, new healthy recipes. It's really not meant to feel like a punishment, and there's no need to try to be perfect. If you work on making your lifestyle more healthy in general, your body will follow along.

    - Most of weight loss is actually mental. This means that the biggest challenge will be telling yourself, every day, that you CAN do it, you CAN finish this workout, you CAN choose this healthy meal, and you DESERVE to be healthy. Small adjustments are great, but there is a lot of mental push that goes with seeing real change.

    - It's worth remembering that we all struggle with different things. I don't find eating well and exercising regularly a huuuge challenge anymore, but I have other things in my life that I feel guilty or frustrated about. The point is that you're not alone in how you feel, and part of having the pact is that we can all share coping strategies.

Let me know if there's anything specific I can help with annnnd see you at Zumba! (Or taxes!)

  2. Usually I'm in a great mood, I'm lucky to not have too many troubles preying on my mind a lot of the time. But having had a tough day today from the moment I woke up, I can now totally understand how being in anything but an awesome mood can affect how you want to eat and exercise etc. I'm glad we had our chat, and I think that for most people, when life gets busier we have to adjust what we do in the rest of our life until we free our time up again. Therefore as long as you just focus on a few small goals, I bet you'll still feel very accomplished! Thanks for sharing, Rach x
